There are a few custom essential oil blends that I’ve made that are used on a daily basis in our home. I love making blends with my oils because it makes it SO easy to just roll the blend right on and go… rather than having to grab a carrier oil, grab all the individual oils, mix it, etc. etc. etc. So many steps.
When you make an oil blend yourself, you’re all set to just roll it on and be done! MAGICAL!
Our immune system supporting roll-on is one, and this calming / relaxing / sleepy time roll-on is another that gets used DAILY! It’s pre-diluted so it is safe to use on EVERYONE in our house, including our two-year-old daughter, Lilly! In fact, this is one of her favorite oil blends. She loves it!
It also takes less than two minutes to make. 🙂
(NOTE: Even though the roller bottle I used has the Peace & Calming label on it, it’s actually my blend. I just used an old, empty bottle of Peace & Calming. :))

ABOUT VALERIAN ESSENTIAL OIL BLEND
*EDITOR’S NOTE: Valerian smells TERRIBLE. But this oil is amazing and works wonders. This is why I only include 1-2 drops to avoid the smell… haha! Keein’ it real.
Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) root has been used for thousands of years for its calming, grounding, and emotionally balancing influences. During the last three decades, it has been clinically investigated for its relaxing properties. Researchers have pinpointed the sesquiterpenes, valerenic acid, and valerone as the active constituents that exert a calming and restorative effect on the central nervous system.*
German health authorities have pronounced valerian to be an effective aid for the body’s needs. Valerian has an approximate ORAC of 61,935 (TE/L). TE/L is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent per liter. (source)
In your empty glass essential oil bottle, add in your 5 drops of Lavender, 5 drops of Cedarwood, 5 drops of Peace & Calming (or Peace & Calming II), 1-2 drops of Valerian (or Frankincense if you want to substitute), and 1-2 drops of Gentle Baby. Then, fill the rest with your liquid carrier oil of choice. Pop the roller fitment on and boom! You’re all set!
I love to roll this blend on my daughter’s spine before school, when she’s feeling a bit anxious, and ALWAYS before bed. It’s the perfect night time, sleepy time oil blend to help calm and relax her! I also use it when I’m feeling a bit stressed and need to relax.
You know that feeling of when you draw a warm bath or light a candle or play some relaxing music and you instantly feel calm? This blend is the oily version of those things! 🙂
NOTE: If you don’t have one of these oils that I mentioned, that’s okay! You can totally make the blend without it… That’s the beauty of custom essential oils blends – you can really mix and match and make them according to what you have. This is just the version that I have found really works best for my daughter (and me!)
I hope you give this blend a try! It’s a favorite in our house! 🙂
