I have been doing ALL OF THE oily DIYS lately. We are really in the “countdown” mode preparing for this baby and in so many ways, I feel like I just don’t know what to do. And, as much as I want to nest, I don’t have MUCH to nest right now (the nursery is an undertaking that I am not even ready to discuss yet…). So, instead, I’m finding myself just doing a lot of reading about and making things with my beloved essential oils.
As I’ve been prepping for baby, I wanted to make some oily DIY products that are JUST for baby. Everything that baby will need that is safe, non-toxic, and properly diluted so they are each ready and rearing to go once baby arrives. Everything from custom essential oil blends for baby, my DIY diaper cream and baby body butter, etc. etc. etc.
Anyway, I thought some of you might be curious to know what some of my “custom essential oil blends” are for our new baby!
DISCLAIMER: This blog post is for informational purposes ONLY and is not intended to replace the advice of a licensed physician. I always consult with my children’s pediatrician before using essential oils. I have used oils on Lilly since she was about eight or nine months old (that’s when we started using them). I always, always, always say to use common sense when using oils. The difference is all about quality (which is why I ONLY use Young Living because I know the quality of what I’m using) and using the oils in the appropriate manner for which they are intended.
Safety tip: Never put essential oils directly in eyes or ear canals. If oils somehow get in eyes or ears, dilute with a fatty carrier oil like olive or grapeseed oil – NOT WATER.
Suggested dilution ratios for babies and kiddos*:

As ALWAYS, I have said this before and I will say it again… use common sense and do what is comfortable for you, your baby, and your family. You know your kids best!
I always spot test on a small area of skin on the bottom of feet to test baby’s sensitivity and monitor any possible skin reaction. I also cover baby’s feet immediately with socks to reduce the risk of the sweet, busy baby possibly transferring any essential oils from feet to hands or eyes.
And again, talk with your pediatrician and / or a licensed aromatherapist if you have ANY concerns or questions. The difference is all about quality (which is why I ONLY use Young Living because I know the quality of what I’m using) and using the oils in the appropriate manner for which they are intended.
If you’re using a 5ml bottle, you’ll add ONE drop of each essential oil into the bottle and fill the rest with a carrier oil and pop the roller fitment on. If you’re using a 10ml bottle, you’ll add TWO drops of each essential oil and fill the rest with a carrier oil and pop the roller fitment on.
Shake bottle well. Roll on the bottom of baby’s feet on the vita flex points to support a healthy immune system in those first days. I will also apply a small amount to the crown of baby’s head for extra blessing and anointing of baby after birth.
For me, I also love thinking about some of the biblical significance of some of these oils. Especially frankincense and myrrh… there’s a reason that the wise men brought these holy oils to Jesus when He was born! I love reading about the history of these oils and their cultural and spiritual significance, in addition to their amazing benefits for supporting wellness!
If the anointing part isn’t something you’re into, that’s okay! For me, it’s something I look forward to being able to do with John in addition to praying and speaking scripture over our new baby. 🙂
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.” – Psalm 23:5
“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” – Matthew 2:11
Roll on the bottom of baby’s feet on the vita flex points to promote restful sleep for your sweet baby.
