DISCLAIMER: This blog post is for informational purposes ONLY and is not intended to replace the advice of a licensed physician, nurse, or nurse midwife. I consulted with my midwives prior to using essential oils during this pregnancy and received the thumbs up!
I always, always, always say to use common sense when using oils. The difference is all about quality (which is why I ONLY use Young Living because I know the quality of what I’m using) and using the oils in the appropriate manner for which they are intended.

It’s a big week in the Stillman house… we’re anxiously awaiting the arrival of Baby Stillman 2.0. And, as we are waiting and counting down the days, I am busy cleaning, doing laundry, spending time with family, and… packing! You know… all fun stuff! 🙂
Well, one of the things that is very different for me this go ’round is how much essential oils have become an integral part of my family’s care and daily routines! I didn’t even know about them when I was pregnant with Lilly and didn’t start using them until shortly after she was born. So, needless to say, with how much we use them and other natural products in our house, I have been making my list for what essential oils and other oily things I will need to pack and bring to the hospital for labor, delivery, and postpartum.
I thought it might be helpful for those of you who are fellow oil users (or who might even be considering looking into getting started with essential oils or other natural products) to know what I’m packing for the hospital and why!
If you are curious as to what essential oils I’ve used this time to support a healthy pregnancy, you can check out my blog post about it here!
This is my little travel essential oil carrying case. I got it at Young Living convention (it’s handmade by a small little shop in Ohio… sadly, they don’t have a website, but this is another one that is AWESOME)…
And here’s what I’ve got in it…
(From the top left going across to the right…)
We definitely want visitors in the hospital, but hospitals (especially this time of year) are full of people with GERMS and all the yucks! I will make sure that before anyone even comes in the room or touches the new baby, that they use some good ol’ Thieves hand purifier and spray! This stuff is. the. jam.
You can read more about the purpose of that here!
Recipe coming for that soon!
Gotta roll that on the bottom of my feet regularly to stay well!
This is a Young Living essential oil on roll-on blend that is one of my FAVORITES. This is one I use to roll on my temples, the back of my neck, or anywhere I need to release some tension… or anywhere I need some… well, deep relief. Haha!
Read more about that here!
I have a feeling this blend is going to get used A LOT over the next few months. Haha!
This is one I know I’m going to diffuse a lot and I also am going to put on my wrists for delivery. The scent instantly makes me feel more relaxed and calm.
Again, we’re going to be in a hospital and so I KNOW I’m going to need some Thieves! I will be diffusing Thieves and lemon in my hospital room!
Purification is just one of those that I always want to make sure I have on hand. I might diffuse it… who knows? But it’s a must have oil for me.
Lemon is another oil that I just don’t leave home without. A drop in my water, great for diffusing, a great goo-be-gone, etc. It’s so versatile!
Valor is another one that I use so often. I love to use it to decrease any feelings of nervousness or tension. This is another one to diffuse, apply to wrists, or just open the bottle and take a whiff when I need it!
Does EXACTLY what it says it does… 🙂
This is a blend with a really calming scent that will be good for immediately after delivery.
Basil is one that I will use to help promote healthy breastfeeding and a healthy supply of breastmilk.
Fennel is another one that I will use to help promote healthy breastfeeding and a healthy supply of breastmilk.
Helichrysum is one that I will apply to my c-section incision to help with any scaring, bleeding, etc.
So many uses. Too many to count.
Again, so many uses. Can’t live without this one.
For post-birth.
Great for supporting the skin!
This one I actually like to wear just as a natural “perfume.” I love the scent. Not that I’ll be wearing perfume in the hospital (I won’t…), but
If we have a boy, I will use this in a little serum / cream for the circumcision
Just such a happy, uplifting scent. Also great to use during labor!
EXTREMELY supportive of the skin!
Oh man. If you have a new baby, a baby, a toddler, or just love things that smell good… Gentle Baby is the blend for you. This blend is perfect for EVERYTHING. It’s like lavender… so versatile! Diffuse, apply to skin, etc. It’s a MUST-HAVE.
This stuff is AMAZING. I’ve been using the Thieves oral care line for over a year and it’s my favorite.
My POST-baby-bump belly butter (recipe coming soon! here’s the recipe for my pregnancy belly butter), LavaDerm cooling mist (this is a great mist for supporting any irritated skin), Lavender hand and body lotion (self-explanatory…), and my baby lotion and baby bum cream!
And, of course, I’m packing my diffuser for the hospital. DEFINITELY can’t live without that while I’m in there!!
Any that you’d like to know more about? Any that surprised you? Which ones would be on YOUR list? I’d love to know in the comments!
