So, today’s DIY is a little different than normal, but very relevant for us right now. Lilly is in a very imaginative stage right now and with that imagination comes: monsters.
I have NO CLUE where she got this from or where she even learned about “monsters,” but she is full-on terrified of monsters. She thinks there are monsters in her bed, in her closet, in her room, etc. etc. etc. She randomly will just get scared and she thinks there are monsters. Because of this, she’s waking up a lot or refusing to nap because of the “monsters.”
We’ve tried so many things to help her ease her monster fear – we’ve tried explaining to her that there are no monsters, we’ve done “monster checks,” we’ve prayed with her… But none of those things were really helping!
My sister told me about “monster spray” she used with my nephew when he was little and I thought, “YES! GENIUS!” So, we made a “bye bye, monsters!” spray for HER to take charge of getting rid of the monsters.
We told Lilly that the spray would help to keep the monsters away and we let her use it and spray it on all the places the monsters come… doorknobs, the railing of the bed, in the closet, etc. It was actually really sweet! She took charge and said, “No more monsters!” while she sprayed. And so far, she hasn’t mentioned the monsters again.
I realize this might seem silly, but it really has helped! And, it was tough seeing her be so upset about these imaginary monsters so much… I was having a hard time helping her… but her taking “charge,” if you will, helps a lot!
For the spray itself, I chose to add oils that are relaxing and calming. The spray smells so good! I would totally use it as a room spray. 🙂
If you have a little one who’s got a “monster” problem, I hope you give this a try!
Here’s What You’ll Need:
In your spray bottle, first pour in about an ounce of witch hazel (this is your emulsifier). Fill the rest of the bottle with water then add in your essential oils. Give it a shake and voila! Your very own “bye bye monster” spray!
