RECIPE | East Carolina-Style Vinegar Based Barbecue Sauce

A quick and easy vinegar-based East Carolina style barbecue sauce.

  • 3 cups apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 5 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes. you can adjust depending upon how spicy you want it


  1. Combine all the ingredients in a large mixing bowl and then pour into a sealable container. I prefer a large mason jar. Let sit AT LEAST 20 minutes before serving... it will get spicier as it sits.
  2. Make sure to keep it in the refrigerator and this sauce will keep for months.
