Easy Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

Servings 12 donuts

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups pure organic cane sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups milk I use whole milk, but any milk will work
  • 2 tablespoons butter I use salted, but unsalted is fine
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg beaten

Topping:

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine you dry ingredients… the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

  2. In a separate, small bowl, combine the wet ingredients egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla.

  3. In the first bowl with your dry ingredient friends, create a well in the middle and pour the wet ingredients in, surrounding them in a dry ingredient hug. Then, with whatever stirring utensil you can dig out of a drawer, gently stir the ingredients together so that they may never be separated again.

  4. Now, for the baking part. You really need a donut mold to make these look like donuts, but if you do not have a donut mold, just put the batter in muffin tins and make cinnamon sugar muffins. The final taste will be the same and your stomach will never know the difference. Your stomach isn’t going to be like “OH MY GOSH THIS DELICIOUS TREAT CAME TO ME IN MUFFIN FORM AND NOT DONUT FORM! I’M SENDING IT BACK!” Just use what you have. I got my silicone donut mold on Amazon for like $12.

  5. With that being said, if you are using a donut mold, scoop the batter into a gallon Ziplock bag, then cut a small hole in the bottom corner and squeeze the batter out into the donut molds like the fancy Boulanger that you are.

  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-18 minutes or until a fork comes out clean.

  7. For the topping, melt the butter in a bowl and then in a separate bowl combine the sugar and cinnamon.

  8. When the donuts are hot out of the oven, don’t wait for them to cool because that would be absurd. (Or wait till they’re cool enough you can actually touch them)

  9. First dip the donut in the melted butter and then slather that butter dipped donut in cinnamon sugar and eat it like you mean it.
