TW: pregnancy loss.💙

Today is our son Elijah Timothy’s fifth heavenly birthday. The grief honestly doesn’t get easier, it just gets different. I think about what he’d be like all the time. If he’d have Amos’s red hair or Lilly’s creative spirit. I wonder if his laugh would be like mine or if he’d have a sarcastic sense of humor like his dad. Would he fight with Lilly over who gets to pick the movie or would he argue with Amos about who’s better at basketball? Would he love the chickens or hang out with the goats? So many woulda beens and coulda beens.

I have peace in knowing that one day I’ll get to hold my sweet boys again and that in the meantime, God’s got him and hopefully he’s playing with his brother Malachi.💙

Watch the sunset.
Tell a dad joke.
Listen to babies giggle.
Fix a favorite snack.

God is in the little things. He’s in the little joys. He’s in the big joys. Don’t be so hurried you fly past the precious moments. #littlejoys

I really like Texas and I really like these people and I really like @lupetortilla 🤣 Holy and hilarious conversations were had. Grateful for pastors like Steve Bezner (he’s the real deal) and women like @sarahedelp who are trying to make this place look more like heaven. (@bethany_scott and @sharonhmiller you were missed 😭)

I’m headed to Houston to do one of my favorite things - eat TexMex. 🥑🌮(@lupetortilla get ready!) Oh and I’m also headed to do one of my other favorite things… speak to a group of women about Jesus and do some Bible teaching! If you’d told 21-year-old me that this would be a thing I’d get the honor to do, I don’t know I would have believed you. (The speaking about Jesus thing… the TexMex would have been very believable.)

Reading and studying the Bible has become something I cannot get enough of and helping others fall in love with The Word too is an even greater joy. It is so fun!

@faithbridgewomen SEE YOU TOMORROW! Houston friends - I think there are still tickets left! I’d love to see you!

66,562 words later, the drafted manuscript is done. (There’s a title here on the title page, but just know that the title is subject to change.)

Much of this book was really, really fun to write. I find myself to be quite funny, truth be told. But the other half, if not the majority of this book, chewed me up and spit me out. I’ve done some hard things in life and this, for sure, ranks in the top ten.

The draft of this manuscript is officially in the hands of my editor, Brigitta. @bnortker Godspeed, B! I have absolutely no idea when it will be published and in your hands.

However, I can say that, already at this stage of the process, I think you’re going to like it. One chapter, in particular, made John Stillman cry when he read it, and he never emotes about anything. (He *whistled* as I walked down the aisle, for pete’s sake!) So, I think that tells us it’s at least halfway decent.

Anyway, please pray for the editing process! And, one day in the not-so-distant-future, you’ll get to hold this thing in your hands if you’re into that kind of thing. #forlaughingoutloud

Also, on a serious note, a quick shoutout to @joyeggerichs and @jenny_dabaumgartner for being some of the first to believe in me and this book. May the Lord bless you and keep you.

GROWTH. This is my word for 2023. My word for 2022 was rooted, and growth felt like the natural follow up to that. I thank God that I learn from the imperfect days and treasure the new ones ahead of me.
