EP 34: Sarah Barnett, Founder of International Blessings
On this week’s episode of the Business with Purpose podcast, I am sitting down with Sarah Barnett, founder of International Blessings. Sarah’s story is incredible – from growing up on a farm to becoming a world traveler to going on the World Race (11 months, 11 countries), and founding an incredible business that empowers artisans all over the globe, Sarah is truly living out her life with purpose and running business with purpose. I could have talked to her for hours and I LOVED hearing her stories of experiencing different cultures and what really ignited her passion for sustainable and ethical businesses. About Sarah and International Blessings:
Although she was raised on the family farm, Sarah dreamed of serving internationally to share God’s love while making an impact in the world. At age 17, Sarah had her first experience overseas in Ecuador and continued to follow God’s leading to over 20 countries including Burkina Faso in 2007, where the idea of International Blessings began. That idea continued to grow as she embarked on the World Race, an 11 month mission trip to 11 countries living out of a backpack. The heartbreaking reality of poverty and desperation became really clear as she served alongside some of the poorest people in the world. Sarah knew she had to do something, something that wasn’t a handout, but provided these families with real opportunities to create sustainable livelihoods. Yet, it took getting married, an office job, and starting a family to realize that international travel wasn’t as ‘easy’ as before and it was time to dive into International Blessings.
International Blessings partners with 20+ artisan groups in 15 countries around the world to help them market their handmade products in a way that gives those families dignity, hope, and sustainability. Products range from jewelry to toys to ornaments, and can be found in the online store or through Box of Blessings.
