Melissa Kruger serves as the Vice President of Discipleship Programming at The Gospel Coalition. As an author and Bible teacher, she regularly teaches women in her community and speaks at conferences around the country.

I’m so excited to have her on the show today to talk about her latest book, Parenting with Hope: Raising Teens For Christ in a Secular Age, and dive into the ins and outs of raising teenagers. We talk about transitioning with your children as they grow, modeling a life of faith, creating a prayerful home, and so much more.

In a culture that often implies that the teenage years are miserable and difficult, Melissa encourages parents to not overlook the beauty and joy in this chapter. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or simply someone who influences young lives, this conversation is SO important, and I can’t wait for you to hear it!

FEATURED QUOTES

“I think growing up with our teen in some ways, is remaining curious about who they are and not making assumptions about why they’re pushing back on something.”

“I think it’s really tempting as a parent sometimes to place a lot of our identity and in our teen…we start trying to control who they become, rather than walk alongside them as they’re becoming who God made them to be.”

“Learning how to make a mistake is actually a life lesson.”

“I always say aim for patterns, not perfection.”

2025: I turned 40, grew and birthed a miracle baby, went on a Disney Cruise, travelled to Banff, watched my kids soar, my marriage thrive, made sweet memories with friends, read 756,000 pages for Seminary, wrestled with and trusted God more than ever before. It wasn’t an easy year, but it was a beautifully wonderfully hard year I wouldn’t trade for anything. Here’s to 2026. 🥂 #2025recap

Some seasons stretch you in ways you wouldn’t choose, but end up shaping you anyway. Today, I finished my fourth semester of seminary (I`m officially halfway through!) in the middle of a beautiful and hard season... it reminded me that growth doesn’t come from having it all figured out. It comes from showing up, staying connected, and trusting that what’s forming quietly now will matter later.

Grateful for the lessons I didn’t plan on learning. 🤍

⭐️ ONE MONTH ⭐️

How is she one month already? Also, why was my pregnancy 753 years long, but she was born five seconds ago. This girl has been the greatest blessing and surprise of our lives and we are obsessed with her.

Her quilt handmade by my dear friend @beakersandbobbins is perfect for this btw. 😭🥹😍 #galileejoy

Two weeks with this punkin’ and I’m wondering if there’s some sort of serum we could give her to keep her this precious and tiny forever. Also, this is a Galilee fan account now. #galileejoy
