This church. These people. No words to the gratitude I have. The inaugural #KevinDendy5K was incredible - we raised over $13,000 and honored our dear brother in Christ, Kevin, in an amazing way. ❤️ Also, next year I’ll start the countdown at 5 instead of 15 (I felt like Frau in Austin Powers but I was committed 🤣). Also, we will be WD-40ing the air horn. #generationlifechurch

SLOW GROWTH EQUALS STRONG ROOTS with my dear friend @marymarantz! In this brief interview we talk about hustle culture, what real rest looks like, why we have to move away from checking things off of our to do list, and how we create margin for creativity and enjoying the beautiful things in our lives.

We lost baby Jolene suddenly last night. It was so out of the blue and so traumatic and we have no idea what happened. She was fine all day, got a checkup and perfect bill of health from the vet and boom… gone. We are so, so sad. We are having a necropsy done to determine cause of death and make sure there isn’t anything that happened that could pose a threat to the rest of our herd. I feel so awful that something happened to her under our care. 💔

We did not sign up for the homesteading lifestyle with any notions whatsoever that it would be easy, but losing our animals has been the hardest part by far. So *so* much love, care, time, attention, and (also, quite honestly) money goes into caring for them. We love them so much and I just don’t think this part will ever get easier. We are heartbroken.

While we only had Jolene for a couple of weeks, she was already such a part of the family and brought us so much joy and the sweetest snuggles. (Swipe to see what I mean 👉🏼)

Doing all we can today to focus on gratitude because this has been a pretty crap week all around and this just took the cake. ❤️

These kids. I have to have a mom moment and just share how I am so ridiculously proud of them. The past four months as we’ve been planting a church, every. single. Sunday. they get up early without complaint, they are the first to arrive at church to unlock the building and start setting up, and they are almost always the last to leave after it’s all been packed up. When we get there, they immediately jump in to help - setting out chairs or helping set up the kids area or even standing out by the road to wave at people as they drive by. They often join prayer meetings, they genuinely love and care for and pray for the people in our church. At 6 and 8 years old, they are teaching me so much what it looks like to serve like Jesus. After all, it was my 8 year old after all who just four months ago said, “Mom, dad… what if God is calling us to plant a church with our community?”

Out of the mouths of babes.

I love these kids so much and I’m so thankful I get to be their mama.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to one of the most incredible people I know, @sharonhmiller! I’m so grateful for her friendship, her fellow love of Mexican food and BLTs, her love of American history (THE MIGHTY MISSISSIPPI!), love of @theflourishmarket (half of our pics together are there 🤣), her willingness to laugh at my Moira Rose impression, being my ride or die, and most of all her love of Jesus. Iron sharpening iron. Sharon, you’re the real deal and I’m so thankful for your friendship and to God for bringing you into my life. Also, we are speaking TOGETHER on Friday night at @fountcoffee for this month’s @thrivemotherhood @restoredformoms event! There are still a few tix left if you wanna join us!

“To practice day by day love, honor, truth.”

Happy founder’s day, @phimufraternity! I realize that nowadays college Greek life can get a bad rap… but @cnuphimu was one of the best parts of my time in college and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Those women are, to this day, some of the most brilliant, generous, and hilarious women I’ll ever know. I feel incredibly grateful for all of them. Swipe to enjoy 9 incredibly frattastic, extremely early-2000s pictures taken on my enormous point and shoot Canon. (The post also would only let me tag 20 people so 🤷🏻‍♀️) #phimufoundersday #phimu

There’s this spot far back in the woods on our property where, in the winter season, beneath the ground are dormant, resilient daffodils. All winter, I can’t see them. When everything is dead and brown, I know they’re there beneath the surface just waiting to come up. No one planted them, they over time, along with the help of bees and wind, planted themselves.

I’ll never forget stumbling across this patch last year and I couldn’t wait until it was time for them to pop up again this year. I love that they bloom at the end of winter - a sweet reminder that spring is coming. And the thing about these daffodils is that they will come back year after year, each year they’ll spread a little bit more, and they’ll still be here for probably decades… if not hundreds of years after I’m gone.

They aren’t bothered by the harsh winter. They aren’t bothered by the season of dark. It’s actually the winter that makes them stronger and more resilient.

Be a daffodil. If you’re in a winter season, remember that spring is coming. You can be just beneath the surface ready to bloom, spreading and growing more beautiful with each passing moment. Keep going. 🌼

Two anniversary posts because I’ll use any excuse to share our wedding photos because ten years later having @katelynjames (with @jillypowers by her side!) as our photographer was the best money spent on our wedding day. Best day ever. ❤️
