Whoever said you can’t wear maxi skirts in the fall or winter is absolutely crazy. Since when did LONG skirts or dresses become something you ONLY wear in the hot months?! I say that’s hogwash! Poppycock! Bollocks! Hahahah I really need to use those words more. So fun.

Anyway. If you really want to maximize your wardrobe and get the most out of each piece in your closet, you need to think about ways to wear certain pieces year round… or ways to wear certain pieces more than one way. It’s totally doable! When I first got this skirt in my July fix, I knew I loved it, but I could picture (right away) how many ways I’d wear it. Turns out, I wear it ALL the time. With chambray, a tank, a t-shirt… it’s become one of my favorite skirts in my closet. Whoda thunk!?

I say this all the time, but I never buy an item unless I can think of AT LEAST three ways to wear it. And I mean, three DIFFERENT ways. Unless the item is super specific (like for a wedding or something), it has to be an item that can be worn multiple ways. Otherwise, I don’t buy it. I even follow the same rules for accessories I buy. I think about how they will impact different looks and how versatile they are…

That’s the KEY to maximizing your wardrobe and all the items in your closet!

Do you have any rules for buying clothes? Do you have any rules for maximizing your wardrobe? What about transitioning an item from spring or summer to fall and winter?
